When Open is Not Open

Really like this article over at Marketing Land, For Consumers, Android Is More “Clopen” Than Open. It breaks down the problems with Android phones, the carriers, the phone makers, and Android (Google). I liked the comparison of certain Android devices arbitrarily not running certain software, like the Nook not running the Kindle software or the Fire not running the standard Android Gmail app or Twitter client. Obviously there’s software people want on iPhones that Apple does not allow, but Apple does not claim to be open. Google sells Android to phone makers, not consumers. It’s open when they sell it and the phone makers or carriers close it quickly.

Hacker News: Poll: As a freelancer, how much do you bill per hour?

Pro tip: Call yourself a Consultant instead of a Freelancer and you get to double your bill rate.

A Freelancer is a 26 year old who will design you a logo in her spare time. A Consultant is a man in his late 30s with 15 years experience and a tie. Since nobody can tell the difference via email, you get to choose which one you’d like to be viewed as.

Thought this was funny.
