Cable Cards and Charter

Can anyone out there verify if this is true or not? I just did a online chat with Charter Communications and was told they don’t offer cable cards at all in Waxahachie, just cable boxes. I thought if a box was required they were required by law to offer cable cards as an alternative? I mentioned this on the chat and this was the response I received.

Kelly: No, that is if HD service is offered, then cable cards must be offered as an alternative. This does not apply to regular digital boxes.

Of course, I guess it doesn’t really matter. If they don’t offer HD service then I’ll be going back with DirecTV. I’m moving to Dallas yet back to the stone age of technology. Guess we should’ve found a house closer to the city :(

BIGJIM.org Fantasy Football

I’ve got a couple more spots available if anyone else is interested. Draft is online live draft the evening of August 30, please make sure you can draft then if you want to join.

BlackBerry 8820, with WiFi

Brighthand: RIM Announces BlackBerry 8820 — Its First Smartphone with Wi-Fi!

Official site — www.blackberry8820.com.

Ahh shit, game on!!! I was so damn close to ordering a Curve earlier today via Amazon you don’t even know. I’m at the end of my contract with Cingular so I could get a Curve from them with a 2 year renewal for MINUS $30 after rebate. I’ll be waiting on the 8820 now though. Even though it doesn’t have a camera, WiFi is more important to me than a camera. I actually USE the web browser on my phone which is one reason I’m truly tempted by the iPhone.

I had about half of this long drawn out post about which phone / email combo would be the best. The just of it is I’d like to use Gmail for Domains but it doesn’t sync with Blackberry, it just has the Java app. I’d use plain Gmail but it’s a pain for me to load all my old email there (for Domains doesn’t have this problem). There’s also that whole sent ‘on behalf of gmail’ thing if you use free Gmail with a custom from address. I’d like just one login to iGoogle, Reader, Email, and Calendar but with Google for Domains you end up with multiple logins because for Domain doesn’t do iGoogle and Reader.

There is no correct answer out there folks. I truly think Blackberry and Apple are getting close in and year or so they’ll have it. Apple + Google on a phone would make for a remarkable device. Add Google Apps, Email, and Calendar sync with an iPhone form factor with WiFi, 3g, Safari, and iPod and you’ve got the ultimate convergence device. Combine the same thing with a Blackberry and it’s a business man’s dream machine. We’re so close, I can taste it. It tastes like Apples and Blackberries.

Waxahachie, TX

So we’re moving to Dallas, more specifically Waxahachie, TX. Offers have been made, paperwork signed, and a house found. At this point we’re just waiting on the moving company to call to schedule pickup and delivery dates around the 1st of August. Shelley and I are both real excited about the move; Waxahachie is a nice small town just in the shadows of humongous Dallas. We’ll have teams in all four major sports, a real airport, a Fry’s, and just about anything else you could want (besides Moe’s) within an hour of us. And I’m sure I’ll be able to find another burrito place.

If you’ve never had anyone else move you it’s the only way to go. They pack us day one, load the truck the next day, and delivery a day or two or whenever later. Unfortunately for us, our moving package doesn’t include unpack service so we have to unbox everything ourselves. One issue with moving to the extreme suburbs will be my internet service. Instead of the 8Mb/s I have now I’m expecting no greater than 3Mb/s there. However, I’m hoping to have more to do around Dallas so I don’t sit in front of this computer all the damn time any more.

GrandCentral

Aside

Just signed up for GrandCentral thanks to my buddy Brian B. I now have a Dallas, TX phone number for when we move there NEXT MONTH (more info later today). I have a few invites left for friends if you’re interested.

There are more pixels in a 30″ LCD that does 2560×1600 than 2 20″ LCDs that do 1600×1200 each. About 6.67% more to be exact. Now you know…
